INVISIBLE CLOAK DESIGNED AND HANDMADE BY TANIA TUPU
Invisible Cloak: Designed and made for display for Te Papa Gallery Store front Entry for the duration of the “E Tu Ake” exhibition April-June 2011
Cloak: My inspiration came after asking my cousin about his “Ta Moko.” He then told me how ‘Ta Moko’ and ‘Taniko’ came from Ngati Porou through a story of ‘Mataora’ and his love ‘Niwareka’ who was from the underworld.
Design: My idea was to make an invisible korowai to represent the underworld (Rarohenga) and where our art forms came from.
Materials: 2050+Clear frosted Tapa Shaped uncoloured resin beads and wax cotton/polyester thread.
